Gen's Tips and Tricks:
-Start simple: invest in the basics and the build on them with accessories and shoes.
-Look for inexpensive options: before you look at a store where you could blow $200 on a top check more inexpensive places such as Target, vintage shops, secondhand stores, H&M, Forever 21, Old Navy, Goodwill, & more! Forever 21 and H&M are better at inexpensive trends, if you want more inexpensive classics look in Target or a secondhand store.
-You can take a staple item and make it hipper or more "on trend" with a handbag or shoes.
- A longer necklace can make your torso look longer so if you want to look taller or slimmer try this trick.
- Belts placed low on the hips give off a Boho/Casual vibe unlike a belt placed up at the waist which gives off a feminine vibe.
- Lastly, the most important part of looking good is keeping your hair, makeup, skin, and teeth looking good, and you can't find that in any store.
Claire's Tips and Tricks:
~ Invest in the basics! Its better to buy more expensive jeans, shoes, bags, and sweaters/ jackets because you can put them with almost anything. This tip especially works if you are interested in purchasing basic brown/ black/ gray/ navy bags or shoes. After splurging on these items, get a trendy, inexpensive top if you think it might go out of style somewhat soon or if you are younger, might grow out of.
~ If you don't know if a clothing item will work because it is a little different or risky, stick with the classic! Of course I always encourage trying a new style or being a trendsetter, but if you aren't comfortable at work/ school, you wont show your outfit in its best light!
~Forever 21 has great, cheap accessories (especially jewelry) that will work with any style! Also, look at the stores listed by Gen above for more ideas. One thing to remember though in these stores though, be selective! These stores have a large quantity of merchandise so don't buy things you wont wear/ don't look good just because they're cheap!
Grace's Tips and Tricks:
-Always look for inexpensive things first. Also, basics are everything, just add your own style into the mix, or to add some flare.
-I think it is always great to invest in a few pieces of clothes that will last a while, but you are still growing, so I suggest going to Norstrom Rack, to find overstocked designer clothes.
-Never, ever spend too much money on accessories, because if you go out and splurge on some $400 diamond earrings from Tiffany's to school, you will be to afraid to wear them. Go to Forever 21 where there are just tables and tables of bracelets, earrings, sunglasses, necklaces and scarves. The style changes so much that you can easily and non-guiltily buy some new trendy accessories.
-Before you go and start shopping for new clothes for the season, raid your own friends closets first, look at hand-me-downs from your cousins or siblings, even go through your own closet and make a list of the things you need to buy so that your not just wandering around the mall thinking you'll find something in the window, make it a mission to find the cutest clothes in the store. You can look for places where you can give your gently used clothing and score credits so that you can trade them in for new clothes from the other clothes people dropped off. There is a place where I live and you can find designer shoes for $40.
-Just remember to be smart with your money and where you spend it, make sure you can see yourself wearing the clothing somewhere more than once. Most of the clothing I buy are from TJ MAXX, Target, H&M, or Forever 21.
